A Day (Or Two) In the Life

Despite its' best efforts, this cold has not managed to kill me just yet. Oh, it's making a valiant effort, but I am resolute in my desire to survive it, so, I am pushing through. Here is photo documentation of a day in the life of a head-cold survivor, because, I am way too fucking tired to type, but, hitting a button to publish a picture is a piece of cake. Also, this day in the life is actually a combination of both Monday and Tuesday of this week, because, drugs make people do weird things.

Don't do drugs, kids.

So, this is the first thing I see in the morning...

...and, this is how I spend the day...

...however, this day was the day before Valentines Day, so, Day Job included a cupcake baking event as a team building exercise, so, that's rather out of the ordinary...

...also, I'm still not eating sweets (Count down to Hawaii, yo)...

...and, I am still exercising...

...but, a girls' gotta eat...

...the next day was Valentines Day; Hugh surprised me with flowers and bling. I reciprocated with a Little Mermaid coffee mug because, Hugh has a wicked crush on Ariel. To each his own, yo.

...and, this is the last thing I see before knocking myself completely out with Nyquil. Use responsibly, kids.

Weekend Update

Did you know that, when your old frenemy Exercise Tourettes is in town, and, you've also been fighting the Crud since roughly the second the ball dropped on New Year's Eve, and, you just want to crawl under the covers and die, it's a natural fact that your life will become super busy and frantically paced?

It's, like, a law of nature or something.

So, yeah, I had a busy weekend. Friday night, the boys played at home, which meant that we traveled on Saturday. We lost both games, one by three points, and one by sixteen. Despite the losses, it is so apparent how much the boys have improved this year; each of the teams we played had previously beaten us by more points, so, to even be able to say that we are closing the gap is a strength. I'm just sad that this is the Man-Cub's final season, I would have loved to see how these boys would be playing with a couple more years of their current coaching.

After the game on Saturday, our small basketball family gathered for dinner, and, Queen B was able to join us, so, I got to share a meal with some of my favorite people (Hugh was out of town at a regional wrestling tournament).

By the time we got home on Saturday night, I was wiped out. The head cold that I have been nursing has migrated to my throat and chest, and I have not been sleeping well, at all. I searched my cabinets high and low for something to take me out of my misery and finally happened upon the last two Dayquil nighttime caplets in the house, they were expired by at least a year, but I was desperate, so I took them and was able to get some sleep.

Sunday, I spent the majority of the day at the hardware store, where Emily and I went over the year-end paperwork among some other tasks. Then, I took the Cub to see A Dog's Purpose, which, was really good, but, if you're going, be sure to take some tissues.

After the movie, the Cub and I picked up some dinner and some drugs and I went home to get some rest. Hugh got home around nine or so, and, that pretty much capped my day.

In hindsight, it doesn't look like a very busy weekend, but, shitdamn, I am exhausted.  I think I may need stronger drugs.

Hello Old Frenemy

A few days ago, I mentioned that we had purchased tickets for our Hawaiian vacation. I also alluded to the fact that my ass is in a state that is not quite up to par as far as bikini standards go. Obviously, that won't do, so, I am back in the gym, running on the treadmill.

You know what that means, right?

The return of my old friend, Exercise Tourettes.

"Friend"?

Really?

Do our "friends" cause us to curse loudly every time we attempt to sit on the toilet? Do "friends" cause us to mutter obscenities under our breaths when we shift our right leg from the gas pedal to the brake? Does a "friend" make us cry out in our sleep when we roll from one position into another, or to seriously debate the necessity of tying our shoes vs. just letting the laces flop about, because, bending over to tie them could potentially cause more pain than a fall caused by tripping over them would?

I think not.

But, since the Exercise Tourettes will be with me for a while yet, I have to call them something, so, frenemy it is.

We have our issues, but, I'll miss them when they are gone (no, I won't).

Handsome AND Smart

Yesterday, the Man-Cub's FBLA projects placed 1st and 2nd at the District competition, which means he earned a trip to the State competition. If he places at State, he could go on to compete in Nationals.

Obviously, I'm super proud of him. I mean, I think we've been over that a time or ten.

I don't know what I did to deserve the amazing kids that I was blessed with, but, I sure am grateful for the gift.

Pulling the Trigger

Hugh booked our plane tickets to Hawaii today. We will be flying out the end of May, a week after the Man-Cub's graduation, and, if I'm guessing correctly, mere moments before (or, after, depending on the way the next few months go) I have a total nervous breakdown.

Just kidding! I'm fine! Nothing to see here! Moving on!

So, yeah, Hawaii. Sandy beaches, warm surf, tropical paradise...flying over an ocean, wearing a bikini in public, touring my son's home for the next four years...or, you know, his forever home, assuming he falls head over heels with the island and decides to never move back...

I'm fine! Planes don't scare me! I have three months to diet my thighs back into swimsuit shape! I can move into the Man-Cub's basement...hey, wait, that's actually not a terrible idea, I mean, Hawaii! Sandy beaches! Warm surf! Paradise!

This could totally work out.

Totally.

What's Up, Buttercup?

Life lately has been busy in a boringly predictable way, which, doesn't really lend itself to fresh and/or interesting blog posts, so, if what you read next seems boring and predictable, just pretend to be interested and/or entertained.

I appreciate your cooperation.

Soooo, I have a cold. Just your typical, run of the mill, winter bug, but, of course I want nothing more than to lie about (lay about? I always forget; Mrs. Richmond, where are your superior English grammar skills when I need them?! I was in Honors English, for pity's sake!) on the couch and drink hot tea while channel surfing between cooking shows and Say Yes to the Dress (Holy crap, what terrible sentence structure that was; again, what the hell, Mrs. Richmond?).

Also, I finished a really stressful month at work and now feel kind of at a loss as to how to organize what feels like an extra three hours to my day, despite there not actually being three extra hours, it just feels like that because I no longer have what essentially boiled down to three extra hours of work a day, which is what I grew accustomed to during the month of January (These sentences are not improving).

In other news, the boys won their game last night, which was especially awesome since they beat a team that had previously beaten them earlier in the season, and, this time, the win counted toward League play whereas the previous game did not. Basically, they won when it counted. The other team was less than pleased.

Also less than pleased was the Man-Cub, who did not get as much play time as he would have liked. The Mama Bear in me shared in his displeasure and seriously considered rushing to his aid in speaking to the coach. The Reasonable Parent in me talked the Mama Bear down from the ledge and convinced her to let the Cub handle advocating for himself since that is a life skill that he will need to finely hone if he is to move thousands of miles away from me to live on an island. Alone. Without me.

Anyway. Exciting game! And, as a total aside, since the Cub was accepted to HPU, I have encountered some reference to Hawaii in my daily life more often than not. I'm not kidding; cashier at the department store where we were buying Hugh new jeans mentioned that she is going to college in Hawaii in the fall, a new client at Day Job mentioned that her son lives in Hawaii, the freaking Pioneer Woman has made Hawaiian hamburgers, Hawaiin pizza, and Hawaiian stir-fry on her cooking show, and a giant Spam display magically appeared in the grocery store where I am certain I had never seen Spam before. Hawaii, Hawaii, Hawaii. It's everywhere.

And, I digress.

The boys play at home again today, I have another busy week scheduled at Day Job, and my cold does not appear to have any intention of clearing up and moving out; I think it's safe to say that the next week will be like deja vu all over again.

I bet there are some references to Hawaii thrown in for good measure.

And, that's what's up, Buttercup.

Let's look at some recent pictures now, shall we?

The T-Rex is a friend of ours who thought that our Booster Club's half-time bean-bag toss fundraiser needed a little excitement. The crowd loved him. I'm not sure BCPE loved having her head nearly swallowed by his giant T-Rex mouth, but, she took one for the team, which made my little heart happy.

Had either one of them donned a grass skirt and danced a hula, however, I'm pretty sure I would have had to kill them.

Just saying.

Oh, Phil

It's Groundhog Day; you may have already heard that the stupid rodent predicted six more weeks of winter, but, if you hadn't, well, now you know.

Six more weeks.

So over this crap.
