Pride Goeth Before the Fall

So, I've already posted about the fall; let's talk about the pride!

This team, I swear, they get the job done.

The JV game in Aspen was a close one; the boys ultimately won 61-58. They kept it exciting throughout the entire game, and, they had fun doing it.

The Aspen crowd got a little mouthy about the officiating and a couple of parents were reprimanded, which, was sad. It was also sad that there were at least twenty Aspen fans in the crowd and yet our cheering section managed to make more noise for the boys. Our section? Five parents. Not even kidding (There were a lot more of our fans in Aspen, but we were split between two gyms, one for the JV boys, and one for the JV girls. During the varsity games, we combined to make a respectable fan section).

(I said respectable, I may have failed to mention slightly crazy)

After the game, several of our families met at a diner to share a meal before heading back to Petticoat Junction. Before we left the school, however, the Varsity coach pranked me by saying that they had called the local police to report my car being illegally parked (only technically, the no-parking zone only applied during school hours, according to the sign). He suggested that we skedaddle before the police got there. I skedaddled, for sure.

At the restaurant, when my friends told me it had been a joke, I suggested that we call the coach and tell him that, in my hurry to avoid the police, I had been caught speeding and, due to an old warrant, was being held at the local police department; could he swing the bus by and pick up the boys and their parents since I wasn't going to be released anytime soon?

It seemed funny at the time; not so much on down the road when I really did get that ticket, but, it'll be a story for the ages, I suppose.

Anyway, that was my weekend.

Oh, and there was that other game, you know, the football thing between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers? Yeah, that one.

Pride definitely went before the fall for the Panthers.

Yay, Broncos!

It Was Bound to Happen

I got a speeding ticket while driving home from yesterday's basketball game, ending an otherwise really good day on a slightly sour note. I was totally at fault, there was no arguing that, and, to be honest, the officer probably did me a kindness by not citing me for my actual speed, but, it's still going to impact our insurance rates and that does not please Hugh.

It really was sort of inevitable; I am not always the most speed-conscience driver, and, the number of miles that I have traveled to basketball games recently is practically incalculable.

Ok, it's totally calculable; I'm just far too lazy. Hashtag: aint nobody got time for that.

The bottom line is, I deserved it and I'll do better in the future.

Also, we only have one more regular season away game, so, the odds are in my favor.

I hope.

Another Saturday, Another Basketball Roadtrip!

We are in the basketball home stretch; games end later this month, and, with the poor record that the Varsity has, it's unlikely that we will qualify for post-season games.

The Cub is ok with that; he's already jonesing for baseball.

In the meantime, we have two more away games, including one in Aspen later today. The Cub has already left to catch the team bus and I am putzing around, getting ready to pick up my fellow Booster moms for the two-and-a-half hour trip.

I'm really enjoying these trips. I've enjoyed getting to know these ladies and watching the boys play is worth any time spent on the road.

Not that I'm not looking forward to baseball road trips.

Just sayin'.

Throwback Thursday: A Boy and His Dog

It's been crazy busy all up in here, hence the lack of regular posting. I'm juggling two jobs, a kid and a half (The Teenager requires less attention but she's still ma baybee!), a basketball schedule that seems determined to kill me, Booster obligations that, while fun, are also time-consuming, and all of the other duties required in the seamless running of a household.

I'm lucky I have time to write at all. Or, you know, time to throw a bunch of old pictures up and call it good. In my defense, puppy!

It's been a pleasure watching these two grow up together. They still cuddle on the living room floor, in pretty much the exact same place and in the exact same position.

A family really isn't complete without a dog. At least, that's how I feel.

Oh, that reminds me...must pick up dog food...better add that to the crazy list of stuff I should be doing instead of writing.

Poor neglected blog.

Lying Liars Who Lie

Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow this morning, and, unlike in years past, did not see his shadow. According to the experts, this means that we will have an early spring.

I've heard that bullshit from that furry rodent before.

My prediction is eight more weeks of winter, followed by a cold and muddy late spring, blending into a too-short summer.

Now, I'm going to crawl back into my burrow, where I will hibernate until the fireworks explode over the lake on the 4th of July.

Ha! I wish.

Guess I'll pull on my snow boots and head to work.

When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get...Scrapping?

It has been snowing all day here in Petticoat Junction. Hugh and the Cub have shoveled once and I am relatively certain that their efforts were about as effective as shoveling sand from the dessert with a teaspoon. If it keeps snowing at this rate, we will have a devil of a time burrowing out tomorrow.

But, I'll think about that in the morning.

While the snow came down, I was tucked comfortably away in my scrapbooking room, making a valiant attempt at catching up on the Man-Cub's scrapbook. I can now report: I am still six years behind, but, that is slightly less behind than I was when I started.

It's progress, and, I'll take it.

I can't tell you how nice it is to be able to start on a page layout and not to have to put it all away when I run out of time to work on it; when I scrapped in my mudroom, I was forever having to do that and it slowed my progress down to a trickle.

With my new room, all I have to do when I run out of time is walk away. There is no need to clear counter space for laundry, mail,  or groceries. And, it's that much easier to just pick up where I left off when I return.

Love!

The only thing left to do in the room is to paint the farmhouse table black and white, to make it go with the décor a little better. Oh, and I do want to find a couple of smaller, four-pane windows to re-do as picture frames for the empty wall space; that will have to wait for warmer weather, when I can get out to the flea markets, again.

Speaking of warmer weather, I'm sure my feathered friends would also prefer a day of sunshine. Or, you know, a scrapbooking room where they could while away the weather instead of freezing their feathers off.

Assuming birds would enjoy scrapbooking, that is.

Poor birds.

Quote of the Year

The Man-Cub had a pretty rough day, today; the JV game got really physical, the Cub got really aggressive, and, his body got really beaten up. Actually, one specific part of his body got really beaten up, and, it's not the part that a guy particularly wants to have injured. This led to him making a statement that the crowd deemed the best thing they had heard all season: "I'm not going to have any balls left after basketball!"

I hope he's wrong; I would like grandchildren, eventually.
