I haven't done a Day in the Life post in quite some time, so I decided to document yesterday's activities. It was actually a good day for the project because I had things going on; that always makes for a more interesting snapshot of my otherwise rather dull and boring life.
Anyhoodle...
I started the day off by sleeping in while Hugh fed the pets. I'm the food provider six out of seven days, so it's nice to have one day where I can pass the chore along.
When I got up, I fixed a cup of coffee and sat down to watch an episode of The Pioneer Woman on the Food Network. Guinness has a habit of jumping on my lap anytime I sit down, and this morning was no different.
After a bit, I went in search of my yoga bag; Kristi and I had plans to meet at the yoga studio in Hooterville for a gentle flow class. It had been a hot minute since I'd been to yoga, so it took me a while to locate the bag, which was buried underneath my reusable shopping bags in the back of the Tahoe.
The gentle flow class was just what I needed, and I felt great when I left the studio. I really need to get back into a yoga routine. Actually, I need to get into an exercise routine, period.
After yoga, Kristi and I headed to the house to try our hand at homemade pasta. You may recall our pickle canning experiment last year; we thought about doing it again, but, are still working our way through the 18 quarts of pickles we made, so we decided to do something different.
I recently purchased a grain mill for my Kitchenaid mixer, so I decided that we should make our own flour for the pasta. Milling the wheat berries was our first order of business.
Once we had the flour ready to go, we got busy on the pasta dough.
Kristi doesn't do a lot of cooking, either here in the States, or when she's in Wales with Erin, so she was really, really excited about the process.
Once the dough was kneaded, we left it to rest for thirty minutes while we played with Boomer Dog in the backyard. He's recently started to decline, and I am taking every opportunity to love on him while I can.
After the dough was rested, we started on the process of rolling and cutting the pasta. I had purchased attachments for the mixer a while back, and was looking forward to finally using them. I'm really hoping to get back into the kitchen in a more intentional manner, and that includes using the gadgets that I own. I mean, I have them for a reason.
The finished product will need a few days to completely dry, and then we will do a taste test. I'm optimistic!
Also, if I'm going to get into the habit of making my own pasta, I really should invest in an actual drying rack.
By the time we got the kitchen cleaned up and I said goodbye to Kristi, it was just about time to pick up Mom for dinner. We had tickets to the community theater's first play of the season, so, after dinner, she and I headed to the theater, while Hugh, who had joined us for dinner, headed back to the house.
The play, All My Sons, was definitely a drama, and kind of a depressing one, at that. But, as always, the actors knocked it out of the ball park.
And, I was in good company.
After the play, I headed home to bed. And that was a play by play of a random Saturday in my life.
