I'm back today for this week's installment of Friday Favorites. My goal was to write one every week this month and, so far, I'm staying true to that plan. Go, me.
So, what's on the list this week?
On Wednesday, Hugh and his fellow firefighters honored the victims of 9/11 at their annual Stair Walk. They spent several hours climbing up and down the stairs in the football stadium at Petticoat Junction High, in full gear, in a show of solidarity for their brothers and sisters who lost their lives as they climbed the Towers 23 years ago.
Last week, I had a microdermabrasion facial at the day spa in Hooterville; it was definitely a favorite, and, one I will be repeating monthly. Eminence, the product line the spa uses for its' facials is all natural, organic, and clean. I had a long consultation with my aesthetician and she recommended the products in the line that would most benefit my skin. I've been using them for the past week and have already felt a difference in my skin. They are pricey, but not any more so than the line that my dermatologist shills, and, these products are better for me.
How do I know they are better for me? Well, in addition to taking the word of my aesthetician, whom I trust, completely; I ran them through my next favorite on today's list: the Yuka app.
What is the Yuka app, you may ask? It's an app that was developed by a trio of friends who wanted a way for consumers to be able to make the best possible choice of food and beauty products. The app allows you to find the "score" that a product rates simply by scanning the barcode on the packaging. The score is determined based on the quality of the ingredients in the product, and harmful ingredients are listed by degree of risk.
The app project is 100% independent; the company accepts no funding from corporations that could pose a potential conflict in the scoring process.
Since I downloaded the app, I have been scanning all my cosmetics and skin care products. I'm not quite ready to subject myself to the horrors that potentially reside in my pantry, though. Baby steps.
These shoes are the last thing on this week's list. They are Tommy Hilfiger espadrilles that I picked up at TJ Maxx in Neighboring City. I like them because they are comfortable and because they are neutral enough to go with a lot of my outfits. I'm planning to wear them a often as I can while the weather is nice enough for open-toed shoes.
