Cherry-O!

After a full weekend of camping, I returned to work on Monday, just to turn around and have Tuesday off for the 4th of July. Hugh and I decided to spend the morning hours relaxing around the house, which is something I haven't been able to do for the past several weeks; it felt nice and I got some quality gardening in (side note: the dreaded squash bugs have invaded and I am currently waging war).

Later that afternoon, we gathered up Shanti and the Man-Cub and headed up valley for some cherry picking at a local orchard. I hadn't been picking since the time, several years ago, that I went with Jana and Granny, so I was overdue. Coincidentally, the Cub's last picking venture had also been with Jana and Granny; I think he was about ten at the time and he ate more cherries than he put in his bucket, which resulted in a very upset tummy and some lava-like bowel explosions (TMI? Sorry!). He showed a lot more restraint this time around.

When all was said and done, we had filled four buckets, which weighed in at fifty-seven pounds. The lady at the scales asked me if I was planning to can the cherries or to bake with them and she seemed genuinely shocked when I said neither; we're just going to eat them.

And, we'll be sharing them with family and friends, I mean, we aren't animals. Plus, the Cub would prefer not to revisit the summer of his tenth year. Can't say I blame him.
