I was really struggling with an idea for our boney friends this year, when, inspiration struck! I saw Hugh's old (and I mean old) water skis lying on the ground in front of the motorhome, destined for the dumpster.
This was an unusual event, as Hugh throws nothing away (and, in this case, I suppose his usual plea of "You never, know; we might need it, someday!" was proven to be correct. Do not tell him I said that), so I consider it serendipity.
When I asked Hugh if he could build me an inverted pyramid of skiing skeletons, he sighed heavily and laid his face in the palm of his hand.
Then he busted out a piece of scratch paper and got busy drawing up a plan. Thus, this year's display was born. Hugh says it is actually one of the easier displays we have done, and it went up rather quickly, so I believe him.
I was practically uninvolved as there was no wardrobe required for the skeletons, save for the life jackets. This means I won't find myself in the freezing cold undressing them come November 1st. That's a happy little bonus.
I have no idea when we will finally arrive at the point in our lives when we no longer have the energy or creativity for the skeleton displays, but, I'm sure that day will get here, eventually. In the meantime, we are enjoying the moment. And, that's a good return on the investment of time and money spent on the skeletons, if you ask me.
