I have to give mad props to Hugh for this year's skeleton display; when I requested both a flying witch and a flying monkey, he was up for the challenge.
The theme, of course, is The Wizard of Oz, complete with a spray-painted yellow brick road and a tornado-deposited farmhouse crushing the Wicked Witch of the East. The farmhouse is our Christmas stable, turned backwards and repurposed for the job, which, was a brilliant suggestion from Hugh.
The whole gang is represented...
...including the Wicked Witch of the West...
...one of her flying minion monkeys...
...Dorothy and Toto, too...
Naturally, Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, is on hand to assist our heroes...
...while the Wicked Witch of the East withers away under Dorothy's childhood home.
We had a fun time putting the display together again this year and have already received compliments from friends and neighbors. The real test, however, will be the reaction of the Trick-or-Treaters, come Halloween night.
Somehow, I don't think we'll have any complaints.
A few things of note: The oil can in Dorothy's basket and the metal funnel on the Tin Woodsman's head both belonged to my Dad and were among the items we rescued from the garage during Mom's yard sale. I think Dad would approve of this usage.
