Thursday Thirteen, Edition Twelve:
Thirteen Things I Will Not Eat

1. Seafood. Including lobster, crab, shrimp and anything else that once swam in the sea. Or, rather, skulked along the bottom of the sea, hoovering up fecal debris from other fish. Bleh!

2. Liver. No, just, no. Once, my mother forced me to eat it and I blew chunks all over the dinner table. Not a pretty scene, I assure you.

3. Fish. For the same reason that I won’t eat seafood. Seriously, I can’t even eat in a restaurant that has fish tanks in it, people. The odd exception to this rule is canned tuna. I don’t know; it just doesn’t seem fishy to me. Maybe tuna really is the chicken of the sea.

4. Mango, something about the texture triggers my gag reflex.

5. Rocky Mountain Oysters. I prefer not to put genitals in my mouth, thank you very much.

6. Rare beef. If you poke it and it bleeds, you have no business putting it in your mouth.

7. Pickled peppers, okra, or any other vegetable with the exception of cucumbers which were meant to be pickled.

8. Cucumbers, minus the pickling.

9. Anything one might see eaten during the food challenge on Survivor.

10. Large mushrooms. I try to keep my fungus consumption restricted to the itty-bitty white button variety.

11. Sardines. See #1 and #3.

12. Veal. The texture reminds me of liver.

13. Sweet potatoes prepared with marshmallows, sugar, butter, etc. However, I will eat sweet potatoes baked or mashed. I mean, come on people, sweet potatoes are already sweet, hence the name; sweet potato.

  2. I was fortunate that my mother didn't like liver, therefore we never were forced to eat it.

I can't eat sardines because I'd be eating the whole thing from the lips to the tail.

That people willingly eat rocky mountain oysters is still amazing to me.

Cool list, though I do like fish.

  3. My mother also forced the liver issue ONCE. I had to take ONE bite and she bribed me with a FROSTIE from Wendy's. I took that bite and gagged it down. I mean..HELLOOOO! My mom who used to LOVE liver was turned against it when she was pregnant with me! I was smart even as a fetus!

    My list is up!

  4. I am with you on the rocky mountain oysters, but if we ever meet in person, we'll have to keep outselves to cocktails because you nixed some of my favorite foods. Mangos? For the love of god, woman! Mangos?? ;-)

P.S. I used to get cans of sardines in my stocking because I love them so!

  6. Rocky Mountain Oysters, yuck. Liver, double yuck. But, you and I will have to part company on the seafood - especially lobster, crab, and shrimp.
    Check out my TT, too!

  9. LOL! :) #9 makes me laugh.... but I'm with you on most these. I don't like liver at all and ick... ick... nasty stuff on this list... Although, I do like veal parmiagana.

I don't mind kippers with crackers - but that's about it. Rocky Mountain Oysters are just disgusting.

  10. This is a good idea for a list! I'm with everyone here who just doesn't get why someone would willingly eat Rocky Mountain Oysters.

  11. I'm with you on the Rocky Mountain Oysters, but the rest don't faze me... okay maybe the survivor food.

  12. Never had Rocky Mountain Oysters and don't plan to. Other than that I eat everyting on your list regularly (with the exception of Pickled things other than pickles). I LOVE liver and onions and fried chicken livers are DA BOMB!

    Great idea for a list. I don't think I will steal it because I really can't think of 13 things I WON'T eat. :-)

My T13 #33 is up it is the 13 Quotes About Men Edition Stop by if you get the chance.

I'm feelin' you on the 'nothing a contestant on Survivor would eat' thing. I don't care HOW much money I could potentially win--I am not putting some creepy-crawler in my mouth!

Here from Thursday Thirteen website! Mine is up too! :)

  15. LOL, then WHAT do you eat? This is really a very good post. I should write one like that soon :)

  16. I'm with you on 100% of these except I don't even eat the exceptions you listed. I'm a very picky eater.

  17. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving me a Mr. Linky. I never had to try liver...if my dad didn't eat it, we didn't eat it. I love seafood, but see your problem. I guess pulling the guts out of a crab or going to a crab fest is out of the question? Are Rocky Mountain Oysters oysters or is that another name for something so much more sinister? How about pickled pigs feet? Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Have a happy St. Patty's Day.

    Maureen
