25 Days of Christmas, Days 8 & 9: Christmas Card Link-up

I wrote about this year’s Christmas card in my last post, but today I am joining Shay and Erika for their Let's Look Link Up Party, the topic of which, coincidentally, is Christmas Cards.

I started sending out cards the first year of my marriage to Hugh. Our first card featured a studio portrait of the two of us, and that’s how it typically went for the first handful of years after the kids were born.

Not a studio photo, but still pretty formal. Also, one of my first attempts at black and white photography. Nailed it!

Once they were old enough to sass back at me when I implored them to pose for an annual portrait, I had to get creative if I wanted to reduce the number of times I felt like I was bashing my head against a stone wall (Christmas card photos: Not the Mountain I Choose To Die On); a happy side effect of that were cards that allowed the kids to be, well, kids.

The inside of the card was my favorite part

Again, the inside of the card says it all

This one really requires that you read the inside..

Told ya so

Doing this set the tone for the cards for years thereafter, which is why they continue to indulge me even as adults.

Which, of course, brings us back to this year...

I took a break from sending cards over the past couple of years, but, if ever there was a year to check in on family and friends, 2020 was it. I hope 2021 lends itself to a far less sarcastic card theme.

Time will tell.
