This Is Not the Way We Wanted to End the Season

The boys lost their game last night, which places them in a pretty bad position as far as post-season play goes. It was also our last regular season non-home game, which means that I have now traveled to my last away game of the Man-Cub's high school football career.

There is also a very real possibility that it was the Cub's last game, period; he took a bungled snap on one punt and ended up having to protect the ball, which means that he got hit, hard. That was not on the agenda, given that the doctor had only cleared him for punting.

Coach pulled him aside after the game to tell him that he is making the executive decision that the Cub sit out at least the next game, and, possibly the one after that-the last game of the season.

To say that the Cub is devastated would be an understatement, but, we all recognize the coach's wisdom and no one wants to see the Cub hurt his chances at a successful basketball season, or, a successful baseball season, for that matter. Nor do we want him to spend the rest of his life nursing a bum shoulder, so, it is what it is.

Unfortunately, during the game, Tones took a helmet-to-helmet hit that left him concussed on the sidelines, so, he will also be out for the rest of the season. I am so sad for my boys. But I am so proud of their dedication to the sport that they love, to their teammates, and to their school.

They are such fine young men.

  1. That really does suck. Guess I should have gone over this week instead of waiting. just hate like heck to see the boys hurt. However life is to short and to precious to live it with sports injuries. Love the boys and I am so proud of them all.
